Women's Month Celebration

The staff of the Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department celebrated Women's Month by wearing violet clothes every Wednesday to show support for the national advocacy of promoting gender equality to establish an inclusive society. This activity was not only observed in the department but also in all the units operating in the city government of Calamba. Historically, the color purple was associated with suffragettes and other movements for women's rights in the United Kingdom and the United States. In a local context, the achievements of women across different fields were showcased, as well as different activities to capacitate women in other sectors of society. Legal bases for this celebration are also made apparent by pursuing the stipulations of the following legislations: Proclamation No. 224 s. 1988 (i.e. “Declaring the First Week of March of Every Year as Women’s Week and March 8, 1988), Proclamation No, 227 s. 1988 (i.e. “Providing for the observance of the Month
